hi there,
one thing, i've never really understood:
why can alpinists (of all genders) get old, still look so darn good, and get tons of respect for their age, while people like me, who refuse to quit skating, snowboarding or whatever above (let's say) 35 get looked at totally sideways?

is it simply due to the "ism" in "alpinism, since those 3 letters add some extra value to about everything they got attached to?
i don't know. "snowboardism" sounds kinda awkward if you'd ask me. so, maybe semantics isn't the only reason for dorkness.
